Know Your Neighbor by Annie Hilliard Parker

As an eight year old in WWII ravaged Frankfurt, malnourished Karla Speerschneider was taken away from her school on a children’s train transport to Switzerland for 3 months to be fattened up. It was over the Christmas holidays. 

This little heartbreaking part of her life is but one example of a series of wrenching tales in the life of now Karla Burch. Her life in war torn Germany and after emigrating to the United States is revealed in Annie Hilliard Parker’s Know Your Neighbor column.
